Our weekly guide to the upcoming weekend includes where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed on 2 - 4 January. There's always so much to choose from in Budapest: exhibitions, markets, live music, festivals, performances and more! But here is our pick of the bunch, our highlights for the first weekend of the year ahead:

Attila Szűcs exhibiton

Friday and SaturdayDeák Erika Gallery In his newest exhibition, A gravitáció vége ("The end of gravity") Attila Szűcs takes well-known, already existing photos or paintings and takes the images from their original context and creates new narratives, where his stories continue their existence in a void, in vacuum-like spaces. And while doing that, he also builds a bridge between between figurative and abstract painting and gives us some beautifully haunting images. Find out more at the official Facebook event.Wattican Punk Ballet + ANEZ

Friday, 9pmGozsdu Manó Klub
We are not sure that the Pope would dance to Wattican Punk Ballet, but we would encourage everyone else to do so. Gaya and Karen Arutyunyant (both ex-Deti Picasso) mix the Tiger Lilies-like theatricality with their very own ''freak dance punk'' style. Dance rock, funky disco dance, energy, Guy Fawkes masks. We think that Bertolt Brecht would like it. And he would like Anez too, a hungarian electronical duo, transforming Björk's dreams into music. Etheral electronic soundscapes, Björk-like vocals, dub. Official Facebook event here.DC Breaks + Audio at Akvárium

Friday, 10pm - 6amAkvárium For the first rave of 2015, Bladerunnaz invited one of the biggest names in the drum 'n' bass scene to pack a post-New Year's Eve punch: DC Breaks and Audio. Both artists are known for their ruthlessly hard-hitting production and for pushing the genre to its furthest limits creatively and sonically. Together they are nothing else but the ultimate D'n'B party crew, that never fail to make a night memorable. Official Facebook event here.
Smashed at Trafó

Saturday-Sunday, 8pmTrafó Four crockery sets, nine jugglers, 80 apples - that's Gandini Juggling. Their newest play, Smashed is a sensational mix of skills and theatricality with a soundtrack featuring music from Tammy Wynette to Music Hall and Bach. Inspired by the great choreographer Pina Bausch, a series of nostalgic filmic scenes explore conflict, tense relationships, lost love and quaint afternoon tea in a deliciously mesmerising fusion of choreography, circus and theatre. If you want to know more, head over to our events page.Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company

Saturday, 11am - 1.30pm, 7pm - 9.30pmMüPa Director-choreographer Bence Vági and his regular creative partners along with his team of outstanding young circus performers at the Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company will surely dazzle fans both old and new with a bag of breathtaking new tricks and an outstanding play, centered around the figure of the clown and how it's evolved from a medieval court jester to the popular figure of the circus arena. Find out more at the official event page. Little White Lies at kolor

Sunday, 7pm - 9.30pmkolor A sprawling, initially engaging French comedy-drama that became a hit in France for a good reason: talented actors (Marion Cotillard, Jean Dujardin, Francois Cluzet), a good balance between comedy and drama and a memorable soundtrack. You can easily sympathise with the characters and learn a valuable lesson about friendship. Original audio, Hungarian subtitles, see the Facebook event.
Regular eventsMany long-term events are actually coming to an end, so here are some programs that you have a few days left to check out: - Rembrandt exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts showcasing a total of 178 works by 100 artists, focusing on the 17th century Dutch masters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer.
- Lechner exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts introduces the oeuvre of one of the greatest Hungarian architects, Ödön Lechner.
- There are still some Christmas winter markets enjoying their final few days this weekend.

We recommend the one at the castle or the one at St. Stephen's Basilica.
- As always at this time of year there are great opera and ballet shows on at the Hungarian State Opera.
