Murder The Killer Exhibition
A thousand square metre, 21 rooms and endless special effects take you deep into the minds of the worst serial killers of decades past. The stories speak of horrible crimes, but the exhibition's aim is not to present the most gruesome cases and turn your stomach, but rather to find reason in mental minds and see what makes a murderer. Vajdahunyad Castle Summer Music Festival
Over four weeks, the scenic open-air setting of Budapest’s fairy-tale Vajdahunyad Castle – found within the City Park – fills with melodies of all genres, offering delightful a cultural experience for everyone. Symphonic concerts, Gypsy music, jazz performances and other world-class shows are held alfresco between July 2nd and August 2nd. Among many artists, Budapest Bár, the Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra and the Sabbathsong Klezmer Band all tread the boards. More details

A38 concerts
In July, scores of cool concerts will be rocking the A38 Ship, a repurposed Ukrainian cargo vessel that is today one of the hottest hangouts in Budapest. Parties aboard are aplenty, but here is our pick of the bunch: on July 4th, Canadian rock duo Japandroids, "heartland rock without the heart", take the stage, while on July 27th the Barabás Lőrinc Quartet bring their pop-like jazz world to A38. They play exciting instrumental music with a hint of electronica, characterised by roguish grooves and pulsating bass runs. Get your tickets quick.

Jeff Mills: Planets and Erwin Schrott Gala concert
The Margaret Island Open-Air Stage offers exciting performances for the summer. On July 13th, star DJ Jeff Mills brings a genuine musical spectacular to Budapest. In his latest concert, Planets, the nine planets of the solar system resound. The performance spans the broadest spectrum of emotions. On July 15th, world-famous opera singer and one of the world’s most popular baritones, Erwin Schrott, gives a gala concert at the same venue. More details

Bass Camp Festival
Lovers of bass music unite! On July 21st Bass Camp Festival dedicates the day to the different genres of bass music such as drum and bass, dubstep, grime, UK garage, UK Funky, hip hop and many more. The one-day mini festival fills multiple stages at Vituki Beach, where you can also plunge into a pool to cool off after the concerts. In case of heavy rain the whole event will move to Dürer Kert, so do check before you leave. More details

Judas Priest
Judas Priest rank as one of the biggest heavy metal acts of all time. On July 24th, the band takes the stage at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna, presenting their latest album, Fireball, the first release since Redeemer of Souls in 2014. Judas Priest feature several times on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time, and now are also nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix
Hungary’s Formula 1 race is held just outside Budapest at Mogyoród on the Hungaroring race track, the third-longest in the F1 race calendar. Set up back in 1986, when this was the first and only Grand Prix destination behind the Iron Curtain, it traditionally draws significant numbers of Finns and Germans to the Magyar metropolis for the weekend. Winner in 2017 was Sebastian Vettel, the year before, Lewis Hamilton, and the two are now battling it out for overall victory in 2018. Traditionally staged in the height of summer, with the heat often a factor, the Hungarian Grand Prix is usually one of the most enjoyable in this whole global circus. The Night of Chairlifts
The Zugliget Chairlift whisks adventurers of all ages up steep slopes towards the summit of János Hill and its crowning Elizabeth Lookout Tower every day. On July 28th , for the first time, it will operate after hours, so you can enjoy a ride in the dark. Look out for shooting stars as a meteor shower is expected in late July. More details
