Restaurant Week, St. Patrick's Day Parade, car-free embankment, and a super cool vintage market – check out all the great things happening in Budapest this month!

1. Stroll on Pest's lower embankment, traffic-free

Starting 15 March, a key stretch of the lower embankment in downtown Pest goes car-free, giving you space to move, relax, and soak in the city – without the traffic. Now in its fifth year, this riverside escape is open on weekends (and every day during summer break), making room for yoga sessions, exhibitions, concerts, and grill parties. So in March, you can be among the first to enjoy it: grab your friends, take a stroll between Margaret Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge, and just soak up the vibes.

2. Catch a movie at one of the world's most beautiful cinemas

Time Out magazine has rounded up the 50 prettiest cinemas in the world, and Budapest's Puskin Cinema made the cut. With its prime downtown location, this cinema is not only super easy to get to but also absolutely worth a visit. Settle into a red velvet chair beneath a ceiling that oozes palace-like vibes and watch films in their original language. Right now, you can catch The Teacher Who Promised the Sea, The Brutalist, A Real Pain, or Anora.

3. Eat at top-notch restaurants for less during Restaurant Week

If you're a foodie who loves dining at top restaurants for less, it's time to start bookings! DiningCity Restaurant Week – a tradition by now – is back from 13 to 30 March. For 18 days, you can enjoy specially crafted 3-course menus at some of Budapest's best restaurants, all at discounted prices: HUF 6,900, HUF 8,900, or HUF 10,900.

A new temporary exhibition has landed at the House of Music Hungary on 11 March, which you shouldn't miss if you're into music. 'LISTEN. – A Musical Journey Around the World' invites you on an absolutely amazing musical journey to discover the forgotten, rarely heard, and unique musical traditions our planet has to offer, drawn from all over: Georgia and Belize to Crete, Patagonia, Iceland, India and far beyond. Running until 31 August, you can be among the first to enter this exciting world – while searching for answers to questions like 'How would you introduce the Earth and the human beings who inhabit it to someone who has never been here before?' 'What would you put in a time capsule for whoever is living here in 1,000 years to open?'

6. Join the St. Patrick's Day Parade

St. Patrick's Day might be an Irish celebration, but Budapest is happy to take its fair share. On 16 March, a St. Patrick's Day Festival & Parade will pop up on Szabadság tér to give way to traditional and contemporary music, dance, and Irish food and drinks. You can also catch a showcase of Gaelic football and hurling, and even meet a pack of pedigree Red Setters and Irish Wolfhounds. Families can enjoy balloon bending and face-painting, while the Parade itself kicks off at 2 pm. Expect the appearance of the great man himself – St. Patrick – leading the crowds through the 5th district, passing some of Budapest's iconic landmarks – like the Parliament and St Stephen's Basilica.

The location, Budafok, might not be central (hop on bus 133E at Astoria station), but this is where the map marked the hidden gold. And by gold, we mean gorgeous antique homeware, books, vintage furniture, clothes, accessories, paintings, frames, and other goodies awaiting their second life.
