As video technology advances ever faster nowadays, high-quality cameras are becoming increasingly widespread, including many with the capability for shooting videos in “ultra high definition” – also known as 4K resolution. We are glad that many Budapest visitors are now using 4K cameras to film astoundingly detailed videos of the Magyar metropolis, capturing the city’s landmarks and liveliness in vivid scenes that almost seem to leap out of our screens. We collected four recently shot videos that present Budapest in 4K resolution to provide the next best thing to seeing the city in person.

With dramatic 4K footage shot in numerous international locations ranging from Africa to the Caribbean to the Grand Canyon, the Around The World 4K YouTube channel is a popular source for virtual sightseeing through ultra-high-definition videos. Posted in spring of 2015, their “Budapest in 4K” video portrays the Magyar metropolis in vibrant detail – you can count every cobblestone in settings shot in the Buda Castle, view every Danube ripple by the riverfront Parliament House, and discern individual feathers on the pigeons of City Park.

The Cities in 4K YouTube channel presents stunning videos of varied metropolises around Europe, including Vienna, Prague, Istanbul, and beyond; they released their Budapest video in the summer of 2015, but were apparently so impressed by our city that they still use a shot of Hungary’s capital for their cover photo today. “Budapest in 4K” is notable for its many fascinating time-lapse sequences and segments of interesting people by varied major landmarks, including Fishermen’s Bastion, St. Stephen’s Basilica, and the Chain Bridge.

In this charming high-resolution travelogue, love is in focus as Jakub Stolarczyk tours Budapest with his girl, vividly filming the couple’s amorous adventures. After a ride on the city’s semi-retro Metro 3, the pair stops by the Great Market Hall before climbing Gellért Hill and strolling along Váci Street, with all of the sights that they see captured brilliantly. Other highlights of “Budapest 2016 [4K]” include close-ups of the “Shoes on the Danube Bank” Holocaust memorial and sparkling visions of Margaret Island’s Musical Fountain.
