Autumn in Budapest is no less exciting than summer, and this weekend gives us plenty of reasons to head out. From wine and craft beer festivals to local design and vintage markets, dancing, running and a couple of new food stops, there’s plenty happening across the city. We’ve rounded up some of the best ways to make the most of the weekend in Budapest.

Friday, 11 September

BUDAPEST WINE FESTIVAL 2026

From 9 - 12 September, the BUDAPEST WINE FESTIVAL returns to Buda Castle, bringing together more than a thousand wines, premium gastronomy, concerts and wine-focused programmes in one of the city's most impressive settings. This year's programme includes free tastings, Kvaterka talks and pop-up wine tastings, alongside the new Explorer ticket, which offers 50% off admission for visitors arriving before 5pm. Add sunset views over the Danube, good food and plenty of wine to discover, and you have a pretty good reason to spend an early autumn evening up at the Castle.

CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL 2026

The Craft Beer Festival returns to Budapest between 10 and 13 September, bringing Hungarian and international breweries, as well as specialist beer shops, back to Dürer Kert with their freshest and most exciting releases. The aim is to showcase the diversity of craft beer culture, making it just as appealing for first-time tasters as for seasoned beer lovers. Alongside the pours, live concerts, DJ sets and a solid line-up of street food will keep the atmosphere lively. Entry to the festival is free, but tastings require a festival glass and tokens.

DISCOVER LE PETIT BEEFBAR’S NEW MENU

Right opposite the Hungarian State Opera, LE PETIT BEEFBAR at W Budapest is a great spot to start the weekend over dinner. The location is hard to beat, especially with a table overlooking the Opera House, while the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make you want to stay a little longer. The menu is just as tempting: try the Insane Rock Corn - tempura popcorn with spicy mayo - the Frites Atelier with Parmesan or black truffle, or the crispy Kobe Frickin' Chicken. Order a few plates to share, enjoy the view and settle in for a laid-back Friday evening in the city centre.

HELLO PIAC

On 12 September, Erzsébet tér hosts HELLO PIAC, a design fair celebrating Hungarian designers, makers and small businesses. Browse clothing, jewellery, bags, home décor, natural cosmetics, gourmet treats and sustainable products, all while meeting the people behind the brands. Entry is free, and the dog-friendly event also highlights creations by designers with disabilities, making it an inspiring Saturday stop for anyone who loves thoughtful design and shopping local.

OATLY AFTER HOURS - RIVERSIDE RELAY

Oatly After Hours - Rakpart Relay brings a running race and community event to the Pest embankment on 12 September. Organised in collaboration with Running Latte Club, the race sees teams of two complete a total of 800 metres, switching runners after 400 metres. Afterwards, runners, supporters and friends can wind down together at Pontoon, with a DJ set by Parton Tali, plus Oatly Matcha products and cold drinks.

NIGHT OF THE DANCE HOUSES 2026

The Night of the Dance Houses takes over Fonó Budai Zeneház on 12 September with an evening dedicated to Hungarian folk dance and traditions. The programme includes dance houses for children and teenagers, as well as dance lessons for adults covering styles from regions including Rábaköz, Kalotaszeg, Mezőség and Felcsík. Visitors can also join craft workshops, family and folk programmes, storytelling and talks, while cooking over an open fire and a cooking competition add to the atmosphere in the garden.

Sunday, 13 September

START SUNDAY AT BUDAPEST BAKEHOUSE

And because no weekend guide is complete without something freshly baked, BUDAPEST BAKEHOUSE is worth adding to your Sunday morning plans. The new spot on Sütő utca keeps things simple during the day with freshly baked pastries and coffee. It's right in the centre, just off Deák Ferenc tér, making it an easy stop before heading on to the rest of your Sunday plans.

CAP EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP AT MUMU WORKSHOP MUSEUM

On 13 September, Sabrina Komár is hosting a cap embroidery workshop at MUMU Workshop Museum, where participants can stitch a text of their choice onto a baseball cap. The three-hour session is suitable for beginners, with guidance provided from learning the basic stitches to designing and embroidering your chosen lettering. All materials are included, along with an adjustable 100% cotton baseball cap. Places are limited and advance registration is required.

VINTAGE FASHION MARKET AT KLAUZÁL MARKET HALL

On 13 September, Vintage Fashion Market takes over Klauzál Market Hall, bringing together classic and contemporary pieces, one-of-a-kind finds and vintage treasures for anyone interested in fashion and sustainability. The market gives pre-loved clothes and accessories a new home at affordable prices, while encouraging a more conscious and sustainable approach to our wardrobes. There will also be a clothing donation drive, where clean, wearable items can be donated to families in need. Admission is free.
