In 2019, when the biggest Twitch streamers are as popular as vloggers, and esports competitions have broken out from college dorms to massive arenas, it's time for us to look around Budapest for the best bars to take to the console and do battle. The local market is still developing, but if you are more Counter-Strike than CrossFit, these venues should meet most of your gamer needs.

Back in 2015, BarCraft in the Corvin Quarter was the first esports bar in town and it still keeps its leading position today. As proof, two other outlets have opened since, one by Nyugati station and one on the Buda side. At all three, it is clear that the masterminds behind the concept are dedicated gamers and designed each place with a similar target audience in mind. All three have high-end gaming PCs for online championships, with consoles (PS4, Xbox, Wii U, etc) available for those who buy at least 490 forints’ worth of drinks and snacks, and board games rented for 300 forints an hour with photo ID. And we haven’t even mentioned extras such as the Victorian steampunk café on the Buda side or the cocktails inspired by different games.

InGame esports lounge and VR arcade

InGame is a little different from other esports bars, as it fishes for the attention of an older generation who still like video games but have different expectations when it comes to a bar. It is a lot more family-friendly and spacious, and the Virtual Reality section holds something for all ages. There are also esports broadcasts here that are best watched with a whisky in hand, and a studio where commentators/casters, streamers or YouTubers can take the limelight.

Infinity Esports Bar

The mastermind behind this esports bar, Béla Baka opened this place to bring back the atmosphere of LAN clubs to Budapest, but a bit more modern in style. Here, competing is the focus, with several Counter-Strike, League of Legends, Street Fighters and other championships on PCs and consoles. The championships can be followed on big screens, as well as on TVs by the tables. If you get hungry, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and paninis are available.
