Castle Hill Funicular

This funicular is a real treasure of Budapest public transportation, since it is operating in the most beautiful part of the city, from Clark Ádám tér up to the Buda Castle. It is 95 meters long, its maximum gradient is 48%. The two cars take passengers up to 51 meters height. The funicular is the second oldest inclined railway in Europe; it was first open in 1870. It was completely destroyed in the Second World War then it was reopened in 1986 when they rebuilt the two pedestrian foot bridges in the original design. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and it is a significant element of the Danube panorama. The line operates from 07.30 to 22.00 each day, you can buy tickets at the terminals. A single ticket is 840 HUF and a round trip costs 1450 HUF.

Cog-wheel Railway

Rock railway is the comfortable and unique way of getting up to Buda Hills. It operates all through the year from early morning to late night.

You can use it with a valid BKV (Mass Transport Company of Budapest) ticket. Its bottom terminal is in Városmajor and the upper terminal is at the top of Széchenyi Hill a short-walk away from Normafascenery spot. You will definitely have a pleasant and spectacular trip during the way.

Chairlift in Zugliget

Libegő (i.e. double chair lift) is another popular way of getting up to Buda Hills. Erzsébet lookout tower is right at the end of the upper terminal. You can have the best panorama of Budapest from there. On the way back, you can enjoy the view for long minutes and you can also have a glance at the private villas and gardens of Zugliget. The bottom terminal can be approached by bus No. 291. A single ticket is 750 HUF and a round trip costs 1300 HUF.
