Salla Tykkä began her career in the mid-1990s. Her short films have been shown at international exhibitions and festival competitions. Giant, now on display at the Ludwig Museum, gained Tykkä the Canon Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2014. Although her work is inspired by personal childhood memories and recurring dreams, her stories cannot be studied as merely autobiographical works. She transforms her personal experience through methodical narrative techniques and forms them into universally understandable metaphors, pushing the limits of film narrative.
