It is for the fifth time in 2015 that centenarian buildings are in the centre of attention in Budapest. In celebration of this momentous anniversary, buildings that were
built between 1911–14
can also participate in the event.

The number of visitors in the past years has been gradually increasing. In 2014,
Budapest100
was proud to host 20,000 visitors at 60 sites, organising more than
150 programmes
.

Budapest100
is an unprecedented
civil society initiative
with a mission to get the whole city involved in the programmes. In 2011, the starting idea of the organisers,
OSA Archives
and
KÉK - Contemporary Architecture Centre
, was to establish a new tradition. The primary aim of the event is to
raise awareness
of the buildings around us, as well as of the history of the people living in them and of the values of the built environment in general.

In 2013, Budapest100 was awarded the title of “The most beautiful urban festival”. Out of the 631 applicants of the Lebendige Stadt Stiftung Foundtation, Hamburg, Budapest100 was the only foreign candidate that came in the top five of the competition where numerous European cities were represented. Last year, Budapest100 was also awarded the title of “Volunteer Programme of the Year” by the jury of the National Volunteer Centre.

In an article published in the British newspaper
“The Guardian”
, the event was selected as one of the most exciting programmes of the continent.
