The magic of flavours, an unmatched panorama, and live music programmes - these are the three pillars behind the renewed concept of Spoon The Boat. Set in a stunning location opposite the Buda Castle District and right by the Danube, the venue now offers not only exciting dishes but also live music four days a week, making it even easier to fall in love with Budapest here, just as they intend.

May kicked off at Spoon The Boatwith the launch of a new menu that reimagines contemporary urban bistro cuisine. The elegance of Wiener schnitzel, the bold character of goulash, and the flavours of Balkan street food all appear in lighter, more shareable forms, complemented by a seasonally changing selection and monthly chef's specials.

Live music nightsare also a key part of the new Spoon experience, alongside the unmatched panorama that can still make your heart skip a beat even if you've lived in Budapest for years. Together, this trio promises to enchant visitors on sunny afternoons and throughout warm summer nights at Spoon The Boat.

Gábor Nagy, founding owner of Eventrend Group, shared the following about the new concept:

We wanted to renew Spoon The Boat in a way that offers a truly complex experience, where gastronomy, music, and scenery all come together. It’s a place that shows a different side of itself throughout the day, from relaxed afternoons to energetic evenings. Our goal is for both Hungarian and international guests to feel equally at home here.

Zoltán Kőrössy, the other founding owner of Eventrend Group, added:

It has always been important for us not simply to open venues, but to create places with their own character and soul - something extra beyond great food. At Spoon The Boat, that added element comes from the connection between music and the panorama.

Gastronomy from the Black Forest to the Black Sea

Szabolcs Semperger, managing director of Spoon The Boat, explained that the menu was inspired by the proximity of the Danube. Together with executive chef Tibor Fekete, they selected dishes that take guests on a culinary journey from the Black Forest to the Black Sea. The musical performances, meanwhile, follow the changing light of the day from afternoon into evening. Guests can also regularly encounter singer Viktória Kovács on board, whose beautiful voice promises to enchant visitors night after night.

Among the starters at Spoon The Boat, guests can find duck liver mousse served with elderflower and cherry chutney alongside homemade sweet bread, while the hummus with roasted cauliflower, chimichurri, and pita offers a lighter alternative. Wonderful flavours and colours come together in the marinated roasted beetroot with sour cherry vinaigrette, elevated further by mustard seeds. The salmon tartare with avocado and naan bread is also an excellent choice. Alongside the classic goulash soup with csipetke noodles, the menu also features guinea fowl consommé with roasted chicken wings. This time, however, we opted for the fresh and velvety green pea velouté, whose beautiful colour and creamy texture were perfectly complemented by caramelised courgette.

The new menu at Spoon The Boat also features several exciting main courses. The chicken paprikash is served with sheep's cheese dumplings, while the moussaka comes with a Balkan-style salad. Guests can also try grilled pike-perch accompanied by chard potatoes and grilled peppers.

The cuisines of nations living along the Danube also receive greater emphasis on the new menu at Spoon The Boat. Highlights include a thinly pounded Wiener schnitzel served with Bavarian potato salad, a Balkan burger with ajvar and potato wedges, as well as one of our favourites, the Shopska salad, which is available in a vegetarian version or topped with grilled zander cheeks or ćevapčići.

The Lounge menu at Spoon The Boat also includes gambas pil-pil, two pasta dishes - one with salmon and one vegetarian - as well as a Caesar salad.

Among the desserts dreamed up by Alexandra Pintér and her team at Spoon The Boat, popular choices include the signature Spoonmisu with raspberry and a cake inspired by Budapest's tram line 2, combining white chocolate mousse, cocoa bean, and mango. Guests can also finish their meal with ice cream, classic desserts, or vegan sweets such as Rákóczi cottage cheese dumplings with cinnamon apricot sorbet or a vegan brownie served with sugar-free passion fruit sauce.

Spoon The Boat is also an ideal spot for afternoon or evening cocktails. Alongside classic drinks, the menu features alcohol-free options and refreshing lemonades, including the Spoon lemonade made with blue curaçao syrup, lemon, lime, and orange. The wine and sparkling wine selection is extensive, while guests can also opt for draught beer. Hot and iced coffee specialities, as well as iced matcha, are also part of the offering.

Live music programmes at sunset and after the city lights come alive

Music is one of the defining pillars of the atmosphere at Spoon The Boat. The Danube Flow & Urban Pulse concept transforms the flow of the Danube, the rhythm of Budapest, and contemporary lounge culture into one distinctive and recognisable soundscape. Alongside organic house, downtempo, nu-jazz, soulful house, nu-disco, and other modern lounge genres, live instrumental and vocal performances also add to the experience. Young talents will regularly perform on board from Thursday to Sunday, while the full programme lineup can be found here.

From the deck of Spoon The Boat, guests can enjoy captivating views of Chain Bridge, Buda Castle, Várkert Bazár, and the Pest Danube promenade. Although it is the same venue, the atmosphere changes throughout the day, offering a different experience from morning to night. Everyone can find their favourite corner on board, whether in the Duna Lounge, the Pest Café, or the Panorama Bridge, each with its own distinct mood. As a result, the boat works equally well for afternoon cocktails, friendly get-togethers, romantic dinners, or even larger events.
