Due to the celebrations and demonstrations connected to Hungary’s national holiday on 15 March, several areas of central Budapest will see road closures and public transport changes on both 14 and 15 March. The restrictions will mainly affect the downtown area and several major routes, so visitors and locals are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Several public transport services will operate on modified routes or with temporary restrictions during the weekend. On 15 March, some metro stations - including Kossuth Lajos tér, Deák Ferenc tér, Arany János utca, and Nyugati pályaudvar - may be temporarily closed between 1pm to 3pm depending on crowd size. The M1 metro will not stop between Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út and Heroes' Square between 2pm and 5.30pm.

The 100E airport express will run a shortened route between the airport and  Kálvin tér on sunday afternoon.

BKK advises drivers to avoid the city centre during the restrictions. Instead, the transport company recommends using rail-based public transport, especially the metro lines, which will run more frequently to accommodate increased demand. Updated information about public transport changes is available on this page, while detailed information about road closures can be found on this website.

On 15 March, BKK services will operate according to the usual Sunday and public holiday timetable. However, larger area closures connected to the holiday programmes will significantly affect public transport across the city.
