Extending metro hours is the first step in a full revamp of Budapest’s night-time public transport. With more frequent trains and smoother connections, getting around after dark is about to get a whole lot easier.
Longer hours, more frequent service
Starting 1 June, the M2, M3, and M4 lines will be running later. On weeknights, the last trains leave the city centre around midnight, and on weekends, closer to 1 am — all running every 10 minutes.

Here's a lowdown on the new metro hours:
Weeknights (Sunday to Thursday):
- M2 line: Last trains leave Deák Ferenc tér in both directions at midnight
- M3 line: Last train towards Újpest-központ departs at 00:03, and towards Kőbánya-Kispest at 23:56 pm
- M4 line: Final train leaves Kálvin tér heading to Kelenföld at 00:04 pm
Friday and Saturday nights:
- M2 line: Last trains from Deák Ferenc tér in both directions at 1:00 am
- M3 line: Final departure to Újpest-központ at 1:03 am, and to Kőbánya-Kispest at 00:56 am
- M4 line: Last train leaves Kálvin tér for Kelenföld at 1:04 am
Night buses now in sync
Surface routes linking up with the metro are getting a schedule refresh too — both on weekdays and weekends — to match the timing of the last trains from the city centre. With over 40 daytime routes now aligned with the new metro hours, getting to Budapest's outer districts late at night just got way easier.
