As soon as the sun makes an appearance, Budapest locals flock to the much-loved Római-part (Roman Beach) – and so should you! Situated right by the Danube, it's the perfect spot to unwind with a spritzer or some tasty lángos – that's Hungarian fried dough – from one of the numerous bars and buffets dotted around. You should also pop into Evezős, a legendary beer garden that's been a local institution since 1983. Excitingly, they're getting ready for the new season with a refreshed atmosphere and some special new dishes alongside their classic offerings.

A Római-part Tradition: Celebrating 40+ Years

Evezős, the legendary beer garden on the Római-part (Roman Beach), has been an unmissable spot in the Budapest summer since 1983. Being so close to the Danube, along with the shade from the old plane trees, the tempting smell of lángos and fried fish, and the availability of refreshing beers and cocktails, all combine to create a real holiday vibe, even if it's just a weekday afternoon or evening.

It's got a wonderfully nostalgic feel about it; you can tuck into some great food and drinks, have a good chat, get your groove on, or simply enjoy the music – much like they did back in the 80s.

New flavours, renewed environment

It's a charming spot where classic live music and a great vibe meet a modern setting. Think comfy reed chairs and swinging seats alongside the usual garden furniture, and even the chance to chill out in an old boat. Cheerful touches and cool blue tones give it a lovely waterfront feel.

Whether you fancy traditional Danube fare, a fresh salad, or something a bit special for dessert, there's something for everyone.

Alongside familiar treats like fried fish and lángos, you'll find exciting street food and Hungarian favourites like spicy fish chowder and fried sausage.

Their grilled corn on the cob, even a Mexican-spiced parmesan version, is a must for a summer by the water. They've also got popcorn, including a fancy truffle option, and loaded fried potatoes that go perfectly with a cold beer.

Burger fans are well catered for, with a popular double-patty smash burger and interesting takes like a fish burger and a crispy chicken burger.

If you're after something lighter, their salads are worth a try, especially the vegan chickpea and the colourful rainbow salad. A real summer winner is their breaded pickled cucumber with a spicy dip.

For dessert, the croffle – a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside waffle-croissant hybrid – is a highlight, with all sorts of tasty toppings to choose from, just like pancakes.

From Budapest beer to excellent cocktails

The drinks menu at Evezős features all the favourite cocktails, refreshing flavoured lemonades, and special coffee concoctions.

One thing definitely worth mentioning is the Budapest beer, a collaboration with Budapest Beer brewery. It's a really thirst-quenching alcohol-free option that you can get on tap, with a subtle hint of lemon. They also offer Budapest Beer's draught cherry beer if you're after something with a bit more of a kick.

Free events throughout the summer

With their free events, welcoming attitude towards families and dogs, and commitment to sustainability, Evezős aims to be a real community hub. It's not just about the food and drink; they want to create a space where locals and visitors alike can connect through various activities and programmes.

Throughout the summer, Norbert Gazsi will play music, the Party Dance Band will perform multiple times (26 April; 2, 16 May; 6, 20 June; 4, 18 July; 1, 15 August), Pedrofon (23 and 30 May) with retro rock 'n' roll vibes, and the Cats Trio (14, 28 June; 12, 26 July; 9, 23 August) will entice visitors to the garden with swing and smooth music. All the concerts kick off at 7 in the evening, there's no charge to get in, and they're more than happy for you to have a dance!

They've also got loads planned for families and kids around special occasions, like shows and crafty bits, and a brilliant children's day party coming up on the 24th of May. There'll even be entertainers there, so parents can properly chill out over a tasty lunch.
