This is the fourth year Megyeri Bridge, Budapest's longest bridge at the northern edge of the city, transforms into a gigantic Christmas tree. It offers a one-of-a-kind holiday experience for those travelling on the M0 highway between Dunakeszi and Budakalász in Pest County.
With 100 metres (35 stories), it's the largest Christmas tree in Hungary – definitely worth a visit, and y ou can catch the special display from the evening of 20th to 26th December .
Not to mention that while there, you can also check out the mini statuette of Kolodko Mihály, depicting a tied-up Chuck Norris.
Every lighting element on the bridge, except for the public streetlights, will be covered in special green foil, transforming both bridge pillars into towering trees. Iconic star top decorations will shine on both the Buda and Pest sides of the pillars, thanks to robot lights. Plus, additional decorative lights will adorn the glass middle section of the pillars, making the monumental Christmas tree even more festive.
Experts are advising the public to avoid stopping in the emergency lane to view the holiday lighting display on Megyeri Bridge, as it is strictly for emergencies. If you want to take photos, do so safely – never while driving. Instead, approach the bridge from Route 2, and walk or cycle to the viewing area beneath the Pest side of the bridge. Road management staff also urge drivers to remain cautious, keep a safe distance, and be considerate of other road users while crossing. This will be clearly signposted on digital displays along the road.
