Yes, it's that time of year: on November 15th, Christmas officially hits town, with the biggest Christmas markets opening.
Advent Bazilika Christmas Market
Voted the most beautiful in Europe for the fourth time, the Advent Bazilika Christmas Market is back in full swing starting next Friday. The square before St Stephen's Basilica will be filled with nearly a hundred artisans. The market runs until January 1st, so you'll have plenty of time to explore the stands, gobble up delicious treats like chimney cake, snap a photo of the magnificent Christmas tree and light displays, and join in heartwarming activities.

Vörömarty Classic Xmas
The Christmas fair at Budapest's iconic Vörösmarty tér is probably the most famous of all, and it also opens its stalls on November 15th. You can soak up the festive spirit, admire a massive Christmas tree, sip on mulled wine, enjoy chimney cake, and even hop on a free train ride (if you are a child) until January 1st. Plus, you can get your hands on beautiful pieces from local craftsmen, including jewellery, illustrations, stationery, ceramics, hand-knitted goods, and even unique combs.

Városháza Winter Park and Christmas Market
Opening on – you guessed it – November 15th, downtown Városháza Park (City Hall Park) and neighbouring Deák Ferenc tér will transform into a winter wonderland. The former will feature an ice rink with ice corridors, where you can glide from Wednesday to Sunday. Entry is HUF 2,500 for all, with skate rentals available (HUF 2,500 and HUF 2,00 for students and seniors). Meanwhile, Deák Ferenc tér will be getting decked out in festive decorations, too. You can browse local artisan products while savouring mulled wine, street food, and lángos (Hungarian deep-fried dough topped with sour creme and grated cheese). On December 6th, you can even catch a glimpse of Santa – he traditionally visits Hungarian children on this day. Both the market and the ice rink will welcome visitors until February 2nd.
