Christmas is just around the corner, which means the gift-shopping season is about to begin. And what if you could do it by finding unique presents that carry the personal touch of their makers, all while supporting local artists and small brands instead of big chains? If that sounds like your kind of shopping spree, then Makers' Market Budapest – a series of pop-up fairs celebrating contemporary design – deserves a spot on your festive bucket list!
Popping up four times before the big day, you'll have plenty of chances to visit Makers' Market. After its summer pop-ups at Fény utca Market and MOST Bistro, the fair is setting up at a new location: the conference centre on Villányi út (Villányi úti Konferenciaközpont). Just a 20-minute tram ride from downtown Deák Ferenc tér, this spacious, covered venue near Móricz Zsigmond körtér offers the perfect spot to browse and buy.
What can you expect?
Stunning handmade products by over seventy local designers, including jewellery, ceramics, accessories, clothes, graphics, homeware, and even packaged gastro treats. Not only can you pick up contemporary pieces but you can also have a chat with the makers to learn about their brands and creative processes. What better way to support local than this?
What's more, you can join Christmas-themed workshops, such as wrapping paper, stamp, or jewellery-making. There'll also be a seasonal gift-wrapping station, so your presents will be ready to hand over. Live music and delicious coffee will help set the festive mood, so if you're as much of a sucker for the holiday season and cool designer gifts as we are, be sure to mark the dates below!
