What could be a better reason for a seriously good breakfast and fizz than a vacation? A lazy, luxurious brunch paired with a glass (or bottle) of champagne can make any morning extra special, and we have rounded up the best spots to go.

Solid

Solid, a vibrant rooftop bar on Királyi Pál utca boasts flavours of the Transylvanian region of Satu Mare and international wines. It's a wonderful place to celebrate any special occasion, with a Michelin-recommended restaurant overlooking the bustling city. One of the bar's forte is the breakfast, with a special festive brunch offered on the weekends, until December 24th. The characteristic flavours have such a sophisticated twist that it would almost be a crime not to have a glass of champagne or sparkling wine to accompany them.

Matild Café & Cabaret

In the run-up to Christmas, the elegant rooms of Matild Palace are bursting with a lavish programme. One of the city's finest luxury hotels is celebrating the end of the year with a circus ambience, with special offers at The Duchess Rooftop BarSpago, and Matild Café & Cabaret. Popular Sunday brunches at the latter have even more surprises in store this season, with timeless classics and seasonal delights to add a festive touch to your all-day breakfast experience. Live music captures the magic of the season, and the little ones are also in for a treat. They can enjoy exciting circus-themed activities during the Christmas Brunch on 25 December, and the New Year Brunch on 1 January. (x)

Have a lazy breakfast in a beautifully renovated Buda villa by choosing Villa Bagatelle! The charming place even has its own bakery, Brót, in the lower part of the building. Baked goods are delivered from here to the bistro one floor up, offering delicious brunches, all made locally. There are plenty of egg choices, lactose- and gluten-free options, as well as French toast, healthy bowls, and superb pastries, all waiting to be topped off with a glass of Mimosa.

Gerlóczy Café

Gerlóczy Café has been enchanting us for more than 10 years with its laid-back, cosmopolitan atmosphere, which, despite its Parisian chic, welcomes its first breakfast guests from 7.30 am. There are a variety of delicacies to choose from, from a simple croissant to a salad or scrambled eggs and more substantial rivals, such as foie gras terrine with apple compote and honey chicory, Eggs Benedict, or Gerlóczy breakfast.

Oda

Oda in the Buda Hills serves heavenly Roman pizzas and offerings from 101Bistro and Buja Disznó(k), making it the ideal spot for a substantial brunch. As well as the classic pastries and egg dishes, there's a range of Eggs Benedict, and you can't go wrong with the brunch platters, either. Their colourful selection of Italian artisan produce, offering meat, vegetarian, and vegan options, is the best way to start the day. Our favourite savoury treat is the homemade grilled sandwich with kimchi, perfected with gooey cheese and tangy Korean pickles. And if you're looking for something sweet to kick off the day, a Liège waffle or a croissant pudding is the best choice. In any case, don't forget to order a glass of Bellini or Mimosa!

À la Maison

You can enjoy À la Maison's chic French elegance, encapsulated in heavenly brunches on Szervita tér in Pest. The egg breakfasts are particularly worth trying, but healthy bowls and sweet surprises are also on offer if you fancy something extra delicious. All accompanied by bubbles, of course.

Kaptafa

Kaptafa, located on Akácfa utca in the party district, has its own identity. Thanks to a young couple, a run-down former shoe tree shop has been transformed into a melting pot for foreigners and locals alike. What's more, their creative brunch menu, rich in flavours and textures, and the unique, intimate atmosphere, also play a big role. The cheese- and bacon-filled French toast called CPR is a great way to start the day, the poached eggs called Cloud 9 are rich and creamy, and one of the most exciting specialities is the Fried Freakin' Pickles, which only seemed weird until we tried it. Perhaps the best thing to accompany it all is some raw champagne.

Franziska

Franziska started in Buda, near Batthyány tér, and has now reached the 7th district in the city centre. The place, which also serves vegan and free-from sweets and cakes, is more in the vein of conscious hedonism and is recommended if you're looking for some healthy energy to boost your day. Girly atmosphere, pastel colours, and delicious treats. And, of course, it all looks even brighter with a glass of prosecco or Hugo (a popular bubbly drink in the German-speaking world, based on prosecco, elderflower syrup, seltzer, and mint leaves).
