Christmas rides are here – These are the festive vehicles to watch out for

Christmas wouldn't be complete without our trams, buses, trolleys, and even the festive HÉV (suburban railway) adorned in twinkling lights. The Christmas fleet is setting off on their magical journey today, see where you can hop on and join the holiday cheer!

Christmas Trolley

When Santa himself hops on a decked-out trolley bus, get ready for a cuteness overload. We are still waiting for this year's schedule, but last year the festive trolleys hit the road on December 5th and stuck around until January 8th. Once on board, you can not only have loads of fun but also support to children in need

Festive fire truck

Mark your calendars for December 3rd, as a festive fire truck is embarking on a journey to bring joy to playgrounds in Budapest's second district. So parents, get ready to climb some moderate Buda hills with your little ones because this surprise is bound to make their day! Check out the dates and the locations below.

  • 3 December: Torockó utca playground (6 pm)
  • 10 and 23 December: Szabadság utca - Szent József utca - Adyliget playgrounds
  • 17 December: Fenyves Park - Zsigmond tér - Vérhalom tér playgrounds

Festive HÉV and Santa HÉV (suburban railway)

Prepare for a magical journey on the Batthyány tér - Szentendre line of the H5 suburban railway (HÉV)! From 1-3 December, you can not only explore the charming town Szentedre and its Christmas market (opening on December 2nd) but travel there in style aboard a vintage train adorned with twinkling lights – all at regular fares.

And the festive cheer continues on December 6th, as Santa himself boards the same train, bringing songs, reindeer and gifts! These special trains make stops only at Batthyány tér and Szentedre (2:34 pm and 5:49 pm departure from Szentendre, and 3:47 pm departure from Batthyány tér), and you can grab a ticket for HUF 3,000 here. Christmas fleet with the Christmas Tram and trolley

The dazzling Christmas tram, a fleet of snaking yellow vehicles wrapped in fairy lights, is a holiday essential in Budapest. The most famous of them is Tram 2, which runs on the riverside and offers scenic views. But several other lines get decked out in festive decorations, and illuminated buses join the fleet too. They are setting off on their journey on December 1st, rolling out after sunset, and they will be on the road until January 7th.
