More festivity is heading our way as the opening date for the Christmas market at the St Stephen's Basilica is approaching. The award-winning fair is returning this Friday with all its glory. And the iconic ice rink.

The opening of the Christmas market on Vörösmarty Square has just been announced, we have yet another attraction to add to the festive bucket list. The Christmas market at the Basilica, voted the most beautiful in Europe in 2019 and 2021, is reopening on November 18th.

This means that 2 days from now you will be able to do loads of fun Christmassy things, with the Basilica being your backdrop. Skate on the iconic ice rink. Admire the light shows displayed on the facade (from 5.30pm every afternoon). Shop hand-crafted goods. Gorge on chimney cake and mulled wine. Watch Gospel singers perform on the steps of the Basilica.

What you can expect

There will be different musicians playing every day from 5pm: from acoustic Macedonian duo Some PPL to young-adult ensemble Song Factory, and Budapest based band Tibi and the Otters

Around 150 craftsmen will showcase their hand-made goods. You can get your hands on gorgeous ceramics, knit animals, jewelry, Hungarian leather goods, puppets, wreaths, garlands, ornaments, antique picture frames, bags, fur and many more items with gift potential.

Culinary stands will offer classic fair food, street food, bbq dishes and the traditional cuisine of the Hungarian csárda. And thanks to the array of hot drinks you will be able to wash all of it down in style.
