Get ready to be swept away by Budapest's oldest and most popular Christmas market, opening this Friday. The market returns to Central Budapest's Vörösmarty Square with a new name but the old charm. Vörösmarty Classic Xmas is stretching its opening time until 28 December, so you can indulge in sizzling sausages, endless amount of mulled wine and handcrafted gifts until the very end of 2022.

You know it is officially festive season when Budapest's main Christmas market opens on Vörösmarty Square. Well, the date is set: hot chimney cakes, even hotter punch, irresistible greasy meals and handmade goods are all returning on 18 November.

If you haven't seen the iconic market before, make sure you save the date - no winter holiday should pass without a mug of mulled wine or a hot apple juice sipped by the gigantic Christmas tree. You can also get your hands on crafty souvenirs.

Even if you have seen it before, it will be worth another visit. This year the event got a new name and some extra flair too. You can expect spectacular decorations, side events and even a free train ride for children.

Vörösmarty Classic Xmas might be the jazzed up version of Vörösmarty Sqaure's traditional Christmas market, but the overall design and concept will reach back to the turn of the last century. Hungarian traditions, artcrafts, typical food, drinks and goods will be the centre of attention. And what's more, there will be a dedicated space to learn about traditional craftsmanships.
