The firework party due to have taken place on Saturday, 20 August, has just been cancelled because of the bad weather. Traditionally, today is when Hungary celebrates St Stephen, the founder of the nation. In the evening, spectacular fireworks would have emblazoned Hungary’s national colours of red, white and green across the night sky. The morning's military display was also cancelled.
With rain pouring in Budapest all morning, the decision has been taken to cancel the spectacular fireworks display to celebrate the national holiday of St Stephen. Other events are still going ahead, such as visits to Parliament during the day. For the latest up-to-date news, see here. For a look at the original schedule, some of which remains valid, see here.
