Police had to chase a fugitive kangaroo around the dark streets of Csepel, an industrial zone of Budapest, on Saturday night. Officers were forced to follow the errant marsupial for a good five kilometres before cornering and capturing him. He was later safely returned to Budapest Zoo.
Sanyi the kangaroo is now safely back at Budapest Zoo after skipping away and somehow making it all the way to Csepel island, a bleak industrial outpost generally only accessible by HÉV train, bus or car. The adventurous Antipodean is only the latest in a series of escapees – last winter, a penguin was found hopping around Zugló.
