There are many ways to climb Castle Hill and many staircases you can take to do so. Our photographers captured a few of them, curved ones by Várkert Bazár, sturdy ones running past people’s windows, zigzag ones through greenery. All lead to Budapest’s most sought-after sight, Buda Castle, and all grant amazing views of the Danube and city spread out below.

Avoiding the queues for the Funicular, many take the steps to reach the top of Castle Hill. But which ones? Our photographers circled the foot of the hill just to offer a sample of these unsung urban features.
