One of the most popular attractions in Budapest every spring is the arrival of the musical fountain on Margaret Island. Shooting water jets ten metres high, this family-friendly feature plays popular tunes from morning to past nightfall while a light show and film projections also entertain passers-by.

From the timeless ditty celebrating cartoon fox Vuk to an evergreen rock tune by Steppenwolf, the melodies should appeal to most generations they stroll past the musical fountain near the southern tip of Margaret Island – a popular location for wedding photos.

Pieces by Bizet, Brahms and Mozart are also programmed in the hourly changing schedule. At 7pm, tunes themed around Budapest include Margitszigeti fák (‘Margaret Island Trees’) by Johnny K Palmer and Király utca by Viktor Király.

You can see the full agenda here – Hungarian-only but the running order is pretty easy to work out and allow you to time your romantic rendezvous around The Blue Danube ('Kék Duna keringő').

The music comes with by a colourful light show and short films projected onto a water curtain in the evenings.
