Spring is coming! It’s already quite warm during the day, and flowers are starting to bloom in the meadows and forests – especially that telltale harbinger, snowdrops. But springtime is not only about the revival of nature, people also get excited, go outdoors, hike, pick flowers or just sunbathe on a nearby bench. They smile more often and enjoy happy moments of sunny weather. Looking at these vintage photos collated by the team at the communal photo archive, Fortepan, the same joy is universal.

It wasn’t that different back in the old days! In winter, the cold and dark weather made people stay indoors, but in spring, the streets, squares and parks of Budapest were filled with buzzing crowds once again. Hopping on a bike or grabbing a hiking stick, everyone found their favourite way to get outdoors. Spring has always brought with it happier and more energetic sensations. Take a look!
