Set where a garrison once housed thousands of legionnaires, the Aquincum Museum came into focus when a large Roman mosaic was unveiled here in 2012. Since then, the dynamic management at Aquincum has staged a number of notable events, in particular the Celtic Samhain celebrations around Halloween. Now the museum will be modernised, installing a new permanent exhibition, Aquincum & the Pannonian Limes, with interactive elements describing these defensive fortifications at this former outpost of the Roman Empire.

A new permanent exhibition will be housed in the museum’s main building and will showcase the everyday life of the Roman military, bringing history to life with interactive features.


Outside, visual elements lining a display wall will provide further hands-on information, alongside a pathway that visitors can stroll where some 50,000 citizens once lived nearly 2,000 years ago.

Another attraction will promote the sights of the surrounding picturesque Danube Bend.
