A communal piano has been set up on Városháza park, the cobbled square by City Hall, a civic initiative for passers-by to bash out a few festive songs over the holidays. The eco-friendly instrument put together with recycled materials will stay in place until 4 January.

A financial analyst at City Hall, Márton Demeter, is responsible for the communal piano now placed on downtown Városháza park for everyone to use.

As Marci puts it: “I’ve seen public pianos in airports, train stations, malls, squares and parks. I always looked at them with envy and wondered why there was no such thing in Budapest. Why not make this year’s Christmas even more special? I managed to organise everything very smoothly, in about three weeks, and now the piano is ready for everyone to play”.

The initiative is also looking for funding – go to this page to see how you can contribute!
