it was 148 years ago, on 17 November 1873, that Pest, Buda and Óbuda were united and the city of Budapest was established. To celebrate this Wednesday's anniversary, a whole range of activities are taking place across the capital, including the Széchenyi and Gellért Baths throwing open their doors and letting visitors see areas otherwise closed to the public. And it's all free!

On Budapest's birthday, 17 November, at 5pm, there will be free visits laid on to the two most iconic spas in the capital, the Széchenyi and Gellért, to allow the public a peek into hidden corners otherwise closed to visitors. During the tour, you can get to know the history and architecture of these landmarks, and be treated to a behind-the-scenes look.

Register at info.gellert@budapestspas.hu or info.szechenyi@asbudapestspas.hu, as places are limited. And those who celebrate their birthdays on the same day as Budapest can also buy a ticket to the Paskál and Palatinus baths for half the price.
