The listed building was constructed in 1897 according to the plans of Győző Czigler. While its condition deteriorated, other market halls in Pest were renovated, such as the ones on Hold utca and Klauzál tér.
As we have already reported, the outside of the building was renovated by the municipality based on the original plans. The wooden and metal doors and windows were restored and manufactured in the same way as the original ones, and the missing decorations replaced. Pigs’ and oxen’s heads, satires, lions and other exciting figures once again look down on shoppers.
According to recent reports, the interior will soon be renovated, too, the plans created by Archikon. The supporting structure, the columns, the mechanical and electrical system will also be renewed, and the interior design will also be adapted in line with heritage protection.
