Unveiled with a special presentation and reading of her works, a section of street adjoining the pedestrianised stretch of Fény utca alongside the Mammut mall has been renamed after renowned Hungarian novelist Magda Szabó. The writer is best known in the English-speaking world for her novel The Door, later made into a film starring Helen Mirren.
Actors Pál Mácsai and Miklós H Vecsei, and writer Anna T Szabó, read excerpts from pieces by Magda Szabó to unveil a street sign honouring the award-winning writer.
Hungary’s most translated author passed away in 2007, leaving behind a substantial oeuvre of acclaimed books, many expertly translated into English by Len Rix.
Also installed on Szabó Magda sétány is a communal bookcase, for which contributions will be welcome.
