Nowadays, dogs are part of city life, with over half a million dogs living in families around Budapest, and more places and parks for people to take their pets. Given this higher profile, rights and responsibilities also come into focus. For the second Dog Critical Mass taking place on 9 October, organisers wish to draw attention to dogs' needs and the current situation.

After 2019, there will be another Dog Critical Mass, with the goal of raising awareness that there should be more places in cities where dogs and owners can spend time together. At the first demonstration, more than 500 dogs marched on grand Andrássy út. The slogan of this year's event is 'We are one a herd!'

Public space for dogs

“We believe that we have a common purpose with non-dog owners as well, to create a liveable, free and happy living space for everyone. That's why we hope that people will join us to support this mission,” says Edina Hirbek, head of ZöldEb Dogs' Rights Association.

The second Dog Critical Mass takes place on 9 October, starting at 1pm from St Stephen's Basilica and heading all along Andrássy út to  to Heroes' Square.
