Tiny paws, little bat-like ears, and cute looks... it’s hard to resist images of dogs and kittens popping up on social media, and that’s why very often people choose the wrong pet. Because of doggy films from childhood and the lack of research, people still choose dogs for superficial reasons, which is why so many end up in shelters or rescue centres.
The Everyone Adopt a Puppy Foundation (MFÖEK in Hungarian) is an organisation in Budapest that rescues dogs and kittens from the shelters in Miskolc, Kisvárda and Ózd, in north-east Hungary. Their goal is to save mixed-breed dogs and to oversee their adoption, according to specific guidelines. By the time pet and owner find each other, they have already gone through several meetings.
Adoption and acceptance
“Adoption and accepting a dog must be a pre-meditated and conscious decision, in which the future owner must prepare not only mentally, but also financially. He has to think about his spare time as well to make a conscious decision so that everything goes well afterwards,” says Zsófia Tarkó, MFÖEK board member.
With this latest fundraising campaign, they will support the rescue of the dogs in shelters and cover medical bills. To make a modest donation, follow this link (Hungarian-only). You can also find out more about the foundation's activities at one of their adoption open days this Sunday, 3 October, at Kőleves Kert on Kazinczy utca, starting at 3pm.
