Ádám Domaföldi is the head of a new, unusual entertainment venture, which allows city residents to try their hand at farm work in a fun setting. The doors to the Tractor Amusement Park are set to open tomorrow, Saturday, 10 April.

The Domaföldi family has long been accustomed to working with the land, getting their hands dirty with agricultural work and animal husbandry. Everything is centred around the use of heavy machinery, and that’s how the idea for the Tractor Amusement Park was born.

“Basically,” says Adam, “we are peasants and use heavy machinery in our daily life. If you want to try it yourself, come to the Park and have a go!”

Called Gép Ranch in Hungarian, the Park is located just outside Budapest, accessible by car. Safety measures, including an emergency remote halt system, are in place to keep inexperienced farmers from harming themselves.

Even children are invited to give it a try, although they must be under direct parental supervision.

What is included at Gép Ranch?

Visitors can drive a Mini HACO hydraulic tractor around a pre-made track and take part in various skill tasks, operating excavators, road rollers and skit steer loaders.

Challenges will soon be added to the website, so that participants can gauge their abilities against one another. Videos on the Facebook page show the track in action, driven by one of the Domafoldi family members as a preview of what all is on offer.

The website and Facebook page are all in Hungarian, but the staff speak English and are happy to assist foreign visitors who want to give the Equipment Amusement Park a try. You must, however, register and book an appointment through the website.

For anyone who takes part, it’s sure to be a fun day out unrivalled by anything found in a guidebook!
