From 13 June, work will start on the renovation of the railway bridge linking Budapest with Csepel island. Set to improve transport infrastructure in this burgeoning area of south Pest, the rebuilt bridge will be in place by December, during which time a temporary terminus will be established with a replacement bus service to Boráros tér.

Built for the suburban HÉV railway in 1951 and not renovated since, Kvassay Bridge serves up to 86,000 trains a year. During reconstruction, the support structure and entire overhead contact line system will be replaced, the track rebuilt and protection from corrosion improved.

Work will start on 13 June. Until 21 June, passengers will be able to use a HÉV replacement service between Boráros tér on the Nagykörút and Szent Imre tér in the heart of Csepel, after which frequent buses will link Boráros tér with Kvassay Bridge.

You can follow developments on the MÁV HÉV Facebook page.

This area of south Pest has recently been in focus thanks to a number of significant developments earmarked for the area, most notably the building of a new sports stadium slated to host the World Athletics Championships in 2023.
