From 27 April, Monday week, passengers using the Budapest City Transport (BKK) network must wear a face mask, or a covering scarf or bandana. Mayor Gergely Karácsony also announced further restrictions to help slow down the coronavirus epidemic, including the closure to the public of Margaret Island this Saturday and Sunday, 18-19 April, from 9am-8pm.

In an address on his Facebook page, Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony announced new restrictions for the city’s public transport network. As of Monday, 27 April, all passengers must wear a face mask, or a covering scarf or bandana.


In addition, Mayor Karácsony ordered the closure of Margaret Island for the weekend, Saturday 18 April and Sunday 19, between 9am and 8pm. The running track may be used in the early morning and late evening, but a ten-metre distance between joggers must be adhered to. Up in Óbuda, Óbuda island and the Római Embankment are subject to similar weekend restrictions.
