See a tower block being blown up in Budapest

This weekend, onlookers gathered round as a tower block raised nearly 50 years ago was demolished in minutes. The removal of the VITUKI Research Centre will make room for the new stadium due to host the World Athletics Championships in 2023. Our star photographer Sándor Csudai caught the dramatic moments when the building came crashing down. Take a look!

Faster blasting technology helped demolish the VITUKI Environmental & Water Management Scientific Research Centre, a tower block erected in 1976. When plans were drawn up for the new sports stadium to host the World Athletics Championships in 2023, the designers originally decided to keep the high-rise – then the assessment was made that it could no longer be used in its current state.

Its final dramatic moments were captured by our star photographer Sándor Csudai.
