A major development is planned for Hungary’s oldest and largest university for physical education and sports science, TE for short. A rooftop terrace will feature a 320-metre track, an outdoor gym, a green gazebo and an alfresco café. Sports fields and a heritage garden are further key elements to be created around the campus near Déli station in Buda.

Permits have just been granted for all the features that should make Budapest’s University of Physical Education one of the finest colleges for sports science in the region.

The development will take place in several stages. The creation of a sports hall on Csörsz utca is already underway. The new buildings on Alkotás utca will house a 50-metre indoor pool, a hall for indoor athletics, a gym, a court for ball games, a shooting range and a 400-bed dorm. A heritage garden will be open to the public as well as students and university staff.

Sports courts are also planned for the 9,000-square-metre roof atop the building, the terrace fringed with a perforated and transparent exterior to suggest openness and transparency. Entering from Alkotás utca, non-students can also use the pool and athletics hall.

Enclosed by a 13-metre-high wall, the Hauszmann historic garden will be the campus’ green relaxation area. This concept is being extended to the vertical garden: 66 metres long, 7.5 metres high, this huge wall will dovetail with the green space thanks to expert landscape architects and high-spec designers.
