Due to pandemic restrictions, the festive period we normally enjoy has been pruned and the Christmas Market moved online. Nonetheless, the city centre is coming to life with holiday decorations, and organisers of the advent event stress that in these difficult times, it is more necessary than ever to feel the Christmas cheer however we can. With this spirit in mind, a Christmas tree has been erected again in Szent István tér by the Basilica, and a series of online activities and experiences will carry us through to the New Year.
AdventBazilika
begins the 2020 holiday season with the motto “the Advent of Hope!” A beautiful
nativity scene has been set up in front of St Stephen’s Basilica, and a five-metre advent wreath will be added. Of course the traditional Christmas tree
will also not be missed, stretching 12 metres high!
There will also be the
usual lighting of the Advent candle, and a series of video interviews will be
made on the street in which celebrities will tell their memories and thoughts
about Advent. On the tenth anniversary of the Advent Basilica, they
will remember the historic event with a picture taken at the fair.
The online craft calendar of the Advent Basilica has been launched, which presents a craft exhibitor every day. AdventBazilika has also announced an online competition, for the Most Beautifully Decorated Festive Window to celebrate festive windows country-wide!
