Budapest Zoo is hoping that Auróra the lonely red panda will hit it off with her new-found friend Bendegúz and propagate this endangered Himalayan species after his arrival from Germany. Meanwhile, across the zoo, the Butterfly Garden has just reopened, its huge aerial space aflutter with more than 400 bright specimens.

It’s all happening at Budapest Zoo. First, a whole flock of flamingos hatched, then rare Parma kangaroos were born, after staff welcomed northern bald ibises and prairie dog pups to Budapest. Now a red panda is getting the red carpet treatment as Bendegúz has arrived for a potential summer romance with Auróra, a resident here for many years.

Meanwhile, the Butterfly Garden has just reopened, allowing visitors to admire the 400-plus colourful specimens. You can observe this tropical paradise as these beautiful creatures fly around you, or stop to feed on the juice of sweet fruit, half-cut bananas or oranges.
