Budapest’s main independent movie theatres and multiplexes are now reopening, shortly after the city’s arthouse cinemas have also started screening.

As we recently announced, the city’s popular arthouse cinemas are open again from today, 25 June – you can now enjoy a film in the Művész, the Puskin, the Toldi, the Tabán, the Kino Café and the Corvin cinema without any restrictions.

The doors of the cult Cirko-Gejzír Cinema are also open as of today, screening the latest art films, including Never Look Away, La Belle Époque and Lola and Her Brothers in original language, with Hungarian subtitles.

The legendary Uránia National Film Theatre opens on 1 July. According to their summer schedule, the ticket office opens at 2pm on weekdays, and from 10.30am at weekends. The cinema is currently finalising supplementary screenings for the dates that were postponed because of the pandemic. Check the Uránia website for the most recent updates.

The Bem cinema awaits moviegoers from 29 June, the first screening being the Oscar-winning Parasite at 7.30pm. The cinema is adapting its operations to avoid any health risks, running fewer films and decreasing hall capacities. Unused tickets from cancelled screenings can be redeemed for other film/dates of your choice, but they can also be exchanged for gift cards or cash at the ticket office from 29 June.

The summer programme is now on its way, to be announced shortly. The Cinema City multiplexes, with a number of new, Hungarian releases and regular English-friendly screenings, return on 2 July. To be safe, some cinemas will be operating with reduced opening hours.
