Művész Cinema (Művész Mozi) is an art cinema and a true cultural centre in Budapest near Oktogon with a unique interior evoking the popular ruin pubs. Screenings have been shown here since 1910; it was the first cinema in Budapest to play colour movies with sound. It got its current name “Művész” in October 1989. It offers the biggest selection of art house films in the city, but occasionally plays more popular pieces, too, and frequently houses film festivals and themed screenings. Real rarities can be found in the Odeon DVD rental shop operating inside the building. Movies typically screen in the original with Hungarian subtitles.
Tip: If you come by bike, you can store it securely within the building.
