In September, Wes undertook a unique project, stringing together over 2,000 photographs of the Hungarian capital to create a stunning, stop-motion-esque journey through the streets of Budapest. The video glides along the scenic tram 2 route, before veering left into the Basilica and showing us the gorgeous, gilded ceiling which takes your breath away.
Continuing through markets, up the Big Wheel and over into the Buda side, we feel as though we’re taking a guided tour through the city, admiring the landmarks in vivid detail. As night falls, the Danube shimmers in the reflections of the lit-up city. The title, The Budapest Express, feels apt.
It was the first time Wes had created this sort of photograph-video project. "This was a new concept for me," he explains. "I've had the idea of making a video out of photos for a long time but I didn't find the inspiration until I was walking around Keleti station listening to all the sounds of the trains. The project took about two weeks of editing to put together."
Wes, along with his girlfriend, share their travel experiences on their website, Feather and the Wind. Several Hungarian destinations appear on the site, including Budapest, and in 2018 he produced a video of Winter Moments in Budapest which highlights the magic of the Christmas season.
Their most recent trip to Budapest had another surprise in store for the couple. "A few days before leaving Budapest," says Wes, "we actually found out that my wife was pregnant. I know that once the baby is born we'll want to bring him to Budapest and show him where he came from".
