Black Girl in Budapest is a one-woman whirlwind behind a lively blog and series of special events, the next taking place at The Studios this Friday, 28 February. We caught up with BGiB, aka Starr, as she was planning out the evening.

“Creating a community is why I started Black Girl in Budapest,” says New-York born Starr, the driving force behind a string of inclusive events, including a Meetup at The Studios this Friday, 28 February.

With the help of with her blog, Black Girl in Budapest, Starr has been bringing together expats of all stripes to share ideas, swap stories and sink a few drinks. Friday’s Meetup coincides with Story Slam at The Studios, a sassy artsy space off Andrássy út, and will be followed by a private karaoke party at 10pm. As Starr says, “You don’t have to be black but it’s encouraged! Everyone is welcome, expats, tourists… it’s not girls only, nor is it a dating event”.

Admission is 2,000 forints, which contributes towards the planning, marketing and venue hire for the event and ensures the viability of more to come. Starr is full of ambitious plans for 2020 – we’ll be running a full profile about this remarkable Budapest resident soon, along with a little bio and background. In the meantime, you can find details of Friday’s event at The Studios here.
