Those wishing to share their ideas about literature are invited to join the Közkincs Könyvtár Book Club, which launches at the namesake community library this month. January’s selected title is George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

The library, a popular feature in Budapest, was founded in 2015 as an English-language, feminist community resource, whose motto is Read, Think, Organise. It offers a wide range of reading materials, from gender studies and social sciences to fiction, art, travel and music.

The Book Club is free for members, 500 forints for everyone else. All proceeds go towards maintaining and improving the facility, and each month will focus on a different literary genre. Upcoming themes include crime, famous Hungarian writers translated to English, female writers, books by black authors, memoirs and more.

The library also offers an English-language film club, which screens movies on a fortnightly basis. Many other activities and events are announced on the group’s Facebook page.

More information on the Book Club can be found at the Facebook event.
