Budapest’s new FIRST Local pairs tasty craft beers from 32 taps with farm-to-table Hungarian-style dishes in the heart of the city.

FIRST Craft Beer aim to brew beers that conjure up new flavours while keeping the same high-quality. Now, besides their taproom on Váci út and the Craft Beer & BBQ on Dob utca, their brand new venue in the city centre, FIRST Local, is proving to be another success.

As FIRST Craft Beer & BBQ can get really busy, the team wanted a new place close by to serve as an alternative. The newly launched Local is ideal for laid-back beer sipping and dining.

Aiming for a Boston or New York-style speakeasy rather than an out and out pub, they have created secluded corners for those seeking privacy, and a spacious terrace. Beers, mostly FIRST’s own brews, feature at a total of 32 taps, but guest ales such as Swedish Omnipollo and Danish To Øl also pop up.

Besides favourites from Craft Beer & BBQ such as pulled pork (2,890 HUF), Angus burgers (2,990 HUF) and rib-eye steak with sweet potato purée and caramelised baby vegetables (4,900 HUF), there are plenty of novelties on the menu. Classic Hungarian dishes such as lecsó tomato-and-pepper stew (1,690 HUF), with eggs (1,990 HUF) or sausages (2,290 HUF), chicken paprikash with specli noodles (2,600 HUF) and Budapest steak with gratin potatoes (5,900 HUF) also tempt taste buds.

The dessert menu only features three sweets for now: Somlói sponge cake, ‘chocolate with chocolate’, that is, chocolate soufflé with tonka-bean cherry sauce, and flódni cake (all 1,190 HUF).
