Sharing is caring. Celebrating six years in business, the BITE Bakery Café is treating guests to free pretzels this Wednesday. This one-day promotion is available at all three of the bakery’s Budapest shops and anyone who swings by will receive a cheesy freebie until stocks last. You can also get your hands on BITE scratch cards, designed for the occasion to reveal prizes to the lucky winners.

It was 2013 when the first BITE shop opened in a corner building across from Nyugati station, a harbinger of the craft-food revolution that defines Budapest’s gastronomy scene today. Featuring a show kitchen behind a picture window overlooking the street, the bakery has become a regular haunt for many a Budapest commuter enjoying BITE cinnamon rolls, sweet pretzels and coffee.

Fast forward to 2019, and BITE has launched two new shops, one on the busier stretch of Király utca and one by transport hub Oktogon. To up the ante, cheesecakes, peanut-butter chimney cakes and pretzel sandwiches have been added to the offering. A healthier line includes yoghurt, muesli bars and protein crackers.

All these treats will be available for sampling on 13 February for the BITE birthday party. Complimentary pretzels will come topped with cheese or sausage.

It's also the ideal event to reveal the new BITE design. After a recent makeover, the Nyugati tér shop features a refashioned layout with a modernised logo and black-and-white interior design. The space, three times bigger than the size of the original café, awaits with a larger counter, more tables, fast-speed Wi-Fi and plenty of power points.

You can get your slice of this palatable pie on Wednesday at the Nyugati, Oktogon or Király utca outlets.
