It’s been a month since the Budapest Wrecking Room opened, and its popularity is sweeping across the city. Bettina and Adam, who run the establishment, cite the prevalence of such destruction rooms across the world, and the importance of citizens’ mental states as reasons for launching this attraction in the Hungarian capital. What better way to relieve your stress than hitting something repeatedly with a large, blunt object?

The Wrecking Room can also be a fun and unusual way to celebrate your birthday, or even for a team-building exercise. Packages on the site range from the Trial Run, with mixed glass bottles, one small electronic device and a boxing dummy on which to turn your wrathful eye, to the Mental Breakdown, which ramps up the carnage with over double the items available for obliteration!
It’s been a big success in Hungary, and defying expectations – the majority of BWR’s Facebook followers are female! Veritable women warriors.
Where do the doomed items come from? Some articles are donated, social media keeps tabs on unwanted objects posted for free, and participants are also welcome to bring in something of their own for destroying – although these must be approved beforehand. And after a session of barbarity, the debris is carefully sorted for recycling.
The biggest problem the entrepreneurs faced was registration, as there wasn’t an official number which quite suited their business. After going to the Central Bureau to create their own, however, the clerks enthusiastically announced that they wanted to go, themselves!
If you would like to expend some energy via hammer, baseball bat or crowbar, check out the package details on the website and make a booking online. Package options start at 6,000 forints, and the premium option tops out at 19,000. Do note that a dress code of closed-toed shoes is strictly enforced, and participants must be 18+ and of sound mind (no alcohol or other substances – save that for the after-party). Each session can last up to 40 minutes, plenty of time to rage and emerge – rejuvenated, contented, a little sweaty – on the other side.
Open: Daily 10am-9pm (appointment required)
