Sat atop the Hotel President on Hold utca in the heart of Budapest, the Intermezzo Rooftop Terrace is now sporting its summer look and is ready to offer mixed drinks and barbecued delights to residents and non-residents alike.
Open every evening from 6pm to 11pm, the Intermezzo is accessed by asking at reception for the pass card which allows use of the two lifts to take you to the top. There, the first thing that hits you is the view, partly facing the elegant outline and majestic green roof of Ödön Lechner’s Postal Savings Bank, unveiled in 1902, and the Buda hills beyond.
The second obvious element is the fact that most of the tables will be taken – reservation is always a good idea.
If you’re here to eat, you’re in for a treat as sizzled on the grill are steaks, burgers and salmon. There’s lighter stuff too, salads and sandwiches, but if you’re just after a little something to go with your drink, you can opt for a cheese platter, spreads or a bowl of olives. For something less conventional, try the quinoa patties with sweet potatoes at 4,290 forints.
Among the many mixed drinks, Aperol Spritz is always a popular option in the warmer months, but look out too for Hungarian Opera gin, a recently launched brand involving garden angelica, grapefruit peel and poppy seed.
As well as welcoming diners and drinkers, this summer Intermezzo will be hosting yoga sessions and the Sunday Be Massive party series, also lined up for a special firework night on August 20th.
