Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

All day: Bence Máté Exhibition on Szent István tér (by the Basilica)

Backdropped by St Stephen’s Basilica, amazing wildlife photography by award-winning Hungarian Bence Máté captures all the colour and diversity of the African savannah, the jungles of Costa Rica and the forests of Transylvania. In an outdoor exhibition running through March, Máté’s unique skill and painstaking dedication imbue each of the hundreds of images on view. After dark, the display boards illuminate by sensor as each visitor approaches. The attraction is free to view.

Noon - : Vegan Garden Reopening at Vegan Garden

Outdoor venue Vegan Garden reopens on Friday to offer purely plant-based street-food dishes. The garden will feature vegan drinks, hamburgers, ice cream, Mexican dishes and a food truck run by Kristóf Steiner, a popular Hungarian vegan blogger and cook. Three days of events celebrate the opening. On Friday, guests can dine with Steiner himself, while on Saturday and Sunday a farmer’s market awaits with workshops and talks.

7:30pm - : Classic Keep Floyding Experience at A38

The region's biggest Pink Floyd tribute band, Keep Floyding, will play songs from several albums on Friday at the A38 Ship.

10pm - : Job Sifre at Lärm

Job Sifre is one of those musicians who breathes new life into the Amsterdam scene. Known for his enthusiastic, happy-go-lucky approach to DJing, Sifre has earned a reputation for making parties move to music that borders on the serious and challenging.

11:30pm - : Therapy Sessions Budapest XL at the Akvárium Klub

Party organisers Bladerunnaz have booked four drum ‘n’ bass DJs from all around the world for a special one-off event for Friday. Performers at this bash will be UK DJs Audio and Donny, Counterstrike from Cape Town and The Panacea Official from Berlin.

Saturday

8am – 2pm: Czakó Farmer’s Market 2nd Birthday at Czakó Kert

Czakó Piac is a farmer’s market full of friendly vendors, awaiting visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house on the Buda side. On Saturday, the market celebrates its second birthday with stalls offering organic products, music, community cooking in the garden and exciting surprises.

7pm - : Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes at the Akvárium Klub

English punk band Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are spoiling their Budapest fans in 2019, playing here twice: first, on Saturday at the Akvárium Klub, then at summer’s Sziget Festival.

7pm - : Jurassic Park Double Feature at the Bem Cinema

On Saturday, the Bem Cinema screens a double feature of Jurassic Park and its second instalment, The Lost World. You can watch both Spielberg blockbusters with just one ticket. The movies will be screened with a 20-minute break between them, in English with Hungarian subtitles.

8pm - : Earth Hour in Budapest

After the sun goes down on Saturday, Buda Castle, the Chain Bridge and Parliament will all go dark for 60 minutes as Budapest takes part in Earth Hour, a global event that shines a light on climate change with this symbolic activity. At the same time, a number of restaurants across the city will be hosting candlelit dinner events.

8pm - : Electrify: Gaika at Trafó

Electrify is a concert series at the Trafó House, showcasing the latest electronic artists on the contemporary scene. This last event of the season is headlined by the UK’s Gaika, a provocative rap and experimental-music artist. His peers, American Huerco S will be playing ethereal ambient while Hungarian Alpár take to the analogue synthesisers.

Sunday

Noon – : BB’z Sunday Brunch at BB’z Bar and Grill

A cool focal hangout, BB’z throws Sunday get-togethers for late risers. An American-style buffet table, an omelette station, salads, mini burgers, homemade cheeses and many tasty treats await. You get a Mimosa as a welcome drink, while any four-legged friend is greeted with fresh water. Resident DJs ensure a great atmosphere, while games entertain on a chill-out Sunday.

3pm - 5pm: Clothes Swap at Müszi

On Sunday, the Müszi Közért is organising a clothes swap, where you can get rid of your old clothes and acquire some new ones. Besides clothes, shoes and accessories, you can also bring plants if you’d like.

7:30pm - : Django Unchained at the Bem Cinema

In Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx stars as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners drives him to take revenge and face German bounty hunter Dr King Schultz. The film screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles.
