Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

All day: Danube Carnival at various venues

Between June 8th and 14th, Budapest hosts one of Hungary’s most colourful cultural events, the Danube Carnival. This fun-filled multicultural festival offers a wide range of exciting happenings at various venues around the city, including performances offolk, symphonic and world music, as well as traditional and contemporary dance.

3pm - 1am: Downtown Beer Festival at Szabadság tér

Between June 6th and 15th, central Szabadság tér will be the best place to hang out in Budapest, thanks to endless quantities of constantly flowingcold beer. Head there this weekend and try any of the more than 250 specially scented local and imported specialities and enjoy beer premieres and live music concerts. The largest number of craft-beer manufactures from all over Hungary gather at one spot and food trucks offer delicious handheld treats.

4pm - : ¡Hola Tereza! Grand Opening Weekend at Tereza

Budapest’s new Mexican restaurant, Tereza, awaits guests with a special, three-day opening weekend between Friday and Sunday, where you can sample their entire food and drink selection. Besides delicious food and mezcal varieties from Mexico, authentic Latin-American music will elevate the mood. Make sure you reserve a table.

8pm - : yesyes at A38 Ship

In June, scores of cool concerts will be rocking the A38 Ship, a repurposed Ukrainian cargo vessel that is today one of the hottest hangouts in Budapest. Parties aboard are aplenty, but here is our pick of the bunch: on Friday yesyes present their unique blend of drum ‘n’ bass, electronic music and live instrumentation.

7pm - 4am: Kolorádó Festival Pre-Party at PONTOON

A cool forest festival, Kolorádó, is taking place from June 13th at Nagykovácsi, so PONTOON is throwing a pre-party to prepare you. Bands and DJs who will all play at the festival give you a little teaser on Friday.

Saturday

10am - 7pm: Summer Etyek Picnic at Etyek

An adorable wine village, Etyek – about 30km west of Budapest – hosts homely picnics four times a year, presenting top wines and gastronomic treasures typical of each season. The rustic village is full of boutique wineries found amid green vineyards – the region is famous for crisp whites and some of the country’s best Pinot Noir. The summer picnic takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Újhegy, welcoming visitors with family activities, outdoor cooking and folk concerts. This year, focus falls on lecsó (Hungarian ratatouille) and rosé wines. How to get there: take bus 760 from Budapest’s Kelenföld station, and alight at Etyek autóbusz-forduló.

10am - 5pm: World Art Nouveau Day at various venues

On World Art Nouveau Day, many institutions from all over the world join a series of events that showcase this unique movement from the last turn of the century. This year, the theme is “My Favourite Art Nouveau Architect”. The special event of the series is an international exhibition of Art Nouveau around the region, “Waves of Art Nouveau – Architecture in the Danube Region” thatcan be visited free of charge at FUGA until June 18th. On Saturday and Sunday, special free events such as city walks and guided tours await. More details

2pm - 10pm: Curisin: Karotte at Cruisin

Cruisin is a party series that takes the fun out onto the open water with an electronica-infused excursion aboard a huge party boat. Here you can dance to pulsing beats on the floating dance floor or chill out on comfy bean bags while admiring moving monumental views. This Saturday, Karotte rocks the boat.

6pm - : Budapest Summer Festival at various venues

The Budapest Summer Festival kicks off on Saturday, running until August 31st. This event series connects several cultural institutes and outdoor performance venues in the city’s sprawling parklands of Margaret Island and Városmajor Park. Home-grown Hungarian talent and prominent entertainers from all around the world will be providing classical concerts, captivating circus shows and soaring opera spectaculars.

5pm - 4am: 100% Scooter-25 Years Wild & Wicked Tour at Budapest Park

Dub dub dub da da dub dub dub... Saturday will be a nostalgic night in Budapest, as the German dance group Scooter, led by the fair-haired favourite of the ’90s, H.P. Baxxter, bring their biggest hits to Budapest Park. If you want 

Maria to believe you that you like it loud, head to this nostalgia party and sing along to the anthemic songs.

Sunday

9am - 8pm: Yoga Connection Budapest at Akvárium Klub

This new-wave yoga festival awaits both experienced yogis and newbies at Akvárium Klub all day Sunday. The event aims to challenge stereotypes with Yoga classes, international guests, workshops, discussions, a yoga bistro and a market with healthy food and design products.

11am - 4pm: Comics Fair at Nagyszünet, Budapest Park

On Sunday, Nagyszünet caters to lovers of comics with special collections and artist appearances. The local representatives of cosplay, workshops and music also await.

11am - 5pm: Vegan Sunday Market at Anker't

A small vegan market is held each month at Anker’t ruin pub, warmly welcoming followers of a vegan or healthy lifestyle with countless healthy treats. Pamper your taste buds with wonderful vegan products and meet new people at this cool community centre. The event is child- and dog-friendly, and also comes with cooking workshops.

11am – 7pm: WAMP Design Fair on Erzsébet tér

WAMP is a regularcommunity event and design fair, a meeting spot for creative and trendsetting young talents. On Sunday, a fun outdoor fair takes place on Erzsébet tér, where local designers showcase their limited-edition collections offering clothes, jewellery, bags and other accessories.

7pm - 9pm: The Silence of the Lambs at the Bem Cinema

Psycho-killer Hannibal still sends chills down the spine even after nearly 30 years. Head to this low-key cinema to see Anthony Hopkins plays perilous mind games with Jodie Foster all over again. Perfect for a Sunday evening chill. English audio, Hungarian subtitles.
